Adopt

URGENT: These dogs need to be rescued from shelters immediately. They are running out of time!

The dogs listed below are currently at shelters and may be in danger of being euthanized. Please contact the shelter directly for more information. You do not need to fill out our adoption questionnaire as you will be working directly with the shelter. Once a dog has been adopted or placed into foster care, it will be removed from this listing section.

Colt

Whisky is a six year old white with liver male German Shorthaired Pointer. He is a sweetheart, gentle and knows some commands (see his video). Whiskey likes to hunt lizards and wood rats. He can easily keep himself entertained in the yard by searching and digging for rodents. He is affectionate, loves to be rubbed dry when wet, likes curling up in a bed or chair. He stays by his foster parent off-leash, and walks pretty well on leash. He is energetic, and we seem to be able to entertain him so easily with two off leash walks a day, some of which are very short, especially in the morning.

All LCAS dogs are fostered in private homes. We do not have a facilty and all volunteers work full time. Most dogs are transported to our scheduled adoption events which are listed on the events page. Please do call first to make sure a particular dog is coming to an event. Sometimes the van is overfull and dogs get the day off. Other arrangements can be made for meeting a dog if you are out of the area, local, or work weekends. If you are viewing this dog through petfinder.org, PLEASE CLICK THROUGH to the Lake County Animal Services webpage to get more detailed information about this dog. Please check our Adoption Events schedule for time and place of events.

If you are interested in Whiskey, contact Lake County Animal Services at (707)349-2624 or via email and reference Pet ID #7163600.

Dogs in Our Foster Care Program

The dogs listed below are in our foster program. The foster home provides a transition period between life in the animal shelter and the new, permanent home. The dogs are given the opportunity to learn any needed social skills and to receive the much needed love, shelter, and medical care they deserve.

If you would like more information on any of the dogs in our foster program, begin by completing our adoption questionnaire and reading about our Adoption Process.  The adoption questionnaire is the first step in our adoption process, whether you are interested in a particular foster dog or are just beginning to explore the option of adopting a rescued GSP.

Not sure if you are ready to adopt?  Perhaps you are interested in fostering?  While we always need foster homes, the need is even more acute because of the foreclosure crisis and general economic situation.  Click here to learn more about becoming a foster home.  Foster homes receive priority in adopting their foster dog.

Not able to foster but want to help one of our wonderful foster dogs? It's easy, click here to find out more about our Sponsorship Program and other ways you can help!

Pointed Homeward

Axel is part of our Pointed Homeward program!  He’s been in rescue quite a while, and a Fairy Dogmother has come forward to sponsor his adoption donation so that his new family can use that money towards his (required) training.

Axel is a 4-year-old drop dead gorgeous male GSP.  Unfortunately Axel has some compulsive behaviors that make him act differently from other dogs.  We are starting him on medication to hopefully help him overcome some of his issues.  Right now Axel would do best in a home with adults and teenaged children.  He needs to be the only dog (he can live with cats.)  Axel LOVES to play fetch and is a fantastic running partner.   He can be aloof, but will still hang out with you on the couch and watch some TV.

Learn more about Axel, by checking out these FAQs.

Bennet Bennet
Bennet

Thank you to Bennet's sponsors!

  • Audrey A.
  • Nancy S.

Bennet's an 8-year-old male GSP who found himself in the slammer, we mean shelter. He's now safe in a foster home and is in good health. Whew! At about 50 lbs. he's on the smaller side which is nice. There are so many great things to say about Bennet. He loves people and is great with kids. He has lived with four, the youngest being 6. Bennet loves to play and has plenty of energy. He loves to play fetch and will carry a stuffed toy around in his mouth. This wonderful chap is housebroken and hasn't chewed on or gotten into anything he shouldn't. Cats are a fun chase game for Bennet, but he hasn't tried to hurt the cat he's living with. He likes to be with his people and would do best in a home where someone is around much of the time. Bennet would enjoy living with a well-matched doggy buddy. He has lived successfully with horses and goats.

Tori Tori
Tori

Thank you to Tori's sponsors!

We are pleased to introduce this beautiful little girl, Tori!  She is estimated to be around 3-years old and is full of energy!!!  Tori is very eager to run and play; however, she is currently being treated for heartworm, which means her exercise must be limited.   Thank goodness she loves her Kong!!  Tori is extremely sweet and craves affection from the humans in her current environment, and is successfully learning to fit in with the other dogs in the foster home.  She has a strong prey drive and would do best in a home without cats or other small critters.  Tori is eager to please and has been responsive to the training received in her foster home - she knows sit/come, is doing well on the leash, and is ready and willing to learn more!  Adopt Tori and you will be rewarded with a very loyal, fun-loving, and affectionate companion!

Please donate to Tori’s Medical Fund – every dollar helps!

Cupcake is a petite, 5-6 year old GSP who ended up at the shelter very emaciated. At only 40 lbs. Cupcake could use a few cupcakes! Since being rescued, her luck has certainly changed! After a couple of good meals and a comfortable place to rest she is already putting on weight and getting healthier every day.

Cupcake is getting along well with the female GSP in her short-term foster home. She is extremely loving and sweet with people, definitely a cuddler! Although it appears Cupcake has little obedience training, she has proven to be a very quick learner - it only took two concentrated lessons before she understood and responded to the "sit" command! She is housebroken, has good manners so far (no chewing or stealing), walks well on a leash, and sleeps in a crate overnight without making a peep!

Based on her winning personality, we're sure there is a special family who will welcome Cupcake into their home. Whoever does will be very lucky...that could be you! Cupcake has not been tested with cats.

Update 2-7-12 - Last week Cupcake started having nosebleeds that wouldn't stop. Her vet did blood work, and took x-rays to make sure there was no obstruction (there wasn't), and recommended she see a specialist right away to figure out what was going on. The specialist thought there might be tumors or fungal plaques, so on Saturday Cupcake went in for a CT scan and rhinoscopy. Who'd have thought a foxtail would be good news! No tumors, no fungus! The foxtail was deep inside her ear and had made its way into the ear-nose-throat area. They were able to flush all the pieces out, and Cupcake is safe and on the road to recovery! Please help us pay her over $3500 in vet bills. Every dollar is greatly appreciated.

Please donate to Cupcake’s Medical Fund – every dollar helps!

Thank you to Coconut's Sponsors!

Jonathan F.

Guardian Angels John and Rhonda S – in loving memory of our love bug, Franz

We can't understand why Coconut's still in foster care. We rescued him after his owner died and he ended up in the shelter. Even though he's reportedly 11 years old, he definitely acts much younger--a perfect example of how GSPs go and go and go, regardless of age. In good weight at 54 pounds, his foster says he's faster than a speeding bullet! We think his lightning bolt markings down his back give him his superhero powers. Coconut's been in two foster homes (through no fault of his own) and has gotten along famously with all the dogs in each. No cats for Coconut however. Why don't you give our resident superhero a chance to rescue your family?

Copen is a sweet gal who's just arrived in rescue.  We are learning about her and hope to have more information soon.  So far, we know that she's about 62 pounds, loves to ride in the car (and doesn't have to help you drive!), and knows some basic commands.  She's 6 1/2 years old and is looking forward to her forever home.

Vera is a super sweet, laid back GSP estimated at 10+ years young.  She's living with two other female GSPs and they love going for walks by the stream.  Check out Vera's video.  Vera was not doing well in the shelter when we rescued her, but she has thrived under the care of her foster mom.  After recently spending some time in boarding while her foster mom was away, the staff mentioned that Vera liked hanging out with the other dogs, loved all the people and especially liked the padded pillow they gave her.  Apparently she's no fool.  Now she's just waiting for you to add her to your family.

Hi, my name is Willow and I'm a senior (estimated to be 10+) female GSP.   I am very sweet and I really try to please.  I am happy to be in my foster home because I can run and move around.  I really love being with my humans and I love to get loving.  I am really quiet and enjoy laying on my dog bed when I'm in the house.  I am not sure what house training means, but my foster mom says I am getting an A so far.  I really want to make people happy.  I look like I have not had a good life so far, but now I am really happy.  I am excited about having a forever home where I can be loved and just please my people.  I am also good in a crate.

Abbie Abbie

Titan is a gorgeous 7-year-old GSP neutered male.  He's a sweet, good-natured boy, very energetic, and is becoming a good running partner.  He LOVES playing fetch.  He is good with dogs and cats and kids, but he might be too much for small kids because he's so exuberant. Titan is crate trained, never ever has accidents in the house and has been an indoor dog for as long as he can remember.  He is also great in the car. Titan is a typical GSP and needs a family who is as active as he is.

Titan has a food allergy, which is easily managed with Nutro Natural Choice, venison and rice.

Re-homing fee negotiable

If you are interested in meeting Titan please email Mira miraguertin@yahoo.com.

Boomer

Poor Boomer has had quite a bit of upheaval in his life recently but he is taking it all in stride. He is currently living with a nice person who took him with the hopes of finding him the perfect forever home when his family had to move. His timeframe for finding that perfect forever home suddenly became very limited when the kind person found out she had to have back surgery and would not be able to care for him. He only has until 3/25/2012 to find his forever home. He is 9 years old, submissive with dogs, great with cats, and even better with kids. He is neutered, knows basic commands, and is housetrained. Get him excited and he will prance for you! He will make a great addition to any family.

If you would like to make Boomer a part of your family please contact Angela at (530) 392-2949 soon!

Re-homing fee negotiable.

Pick me! Pick me! Pick me for your team. I might not be perfect, but I have a really big heart. My heart is big enough to bury my past when humans were not very kind to me.

Now, I crave the attention and affections of all two legged creatures big and small. Although, the really small ones make me a bit nervous when they get in my face and grab for my tail and ears. My heart is big enough to make me forget why I have a scar on my neck and scars on my heart just little reminders of a time when life was a bit ruff for me. Life could not be better for me now that I am surrounded by kind people, friendly dogs and plenty of cool toys. I don't know about cats, but I am sure I could be friendly towards a dog loving cat too.

Don't pass me over for the next guy who might have a pedigree or an untainted past, I really am a big-hearted boy who just wants to be loved and accepted as a member of your team. We can do lots of things together like running on the beach, playing ball at the park or hiking in the hills. I also like to calmly lay at my master's feet. If you want to pick me, please call the person who saved me and polished the tarnish off my big heart of gold. She can be reached at 530-274-3353. My name is Rufous and I am waiting to be picked by you.
